FROM ADVOCACY to actionCommunity priorities become budget wins
Every year, residents, advocates, and community organizations come together to identify the investments New Orleans needs most. Through the Big Easy Deal, those priorities are transformed into concrete budget victories that improve lives across the city.
$10.8 million for community safety
Secured funding for community peace ambassadors, non-police crisis intervention, a trauma recovery center, and restorative approaches that address harm before it happens.
$31 million for housing stability
Won investments for the Housing Trust Fund, housing rehabilitation, healthy homes, tenant protections, and homelessness outreach. Together, these programs help residents stay housed, improve living conditions, and expand access to affordable housing.
$9.6 million for youth and families
Expanded support for young people and caregivers through Family Connects, the Youth Program Data Hub, school-based programs, and fare-free transit. These investments ensure 10,000 youth and families have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.
$10.2 million for food and economic opportunity
Advanced funding for food access initiatives, fresh food incentives, and direct cash assistance to help families meet basic needs and build economic stability. By investing directly in residents, these programs strengthen household well-being and local economies.
$1.4 million for government accountability
Secured investments in language access, labor oversight, and resilience planning to make government more accessible, equitable, and responsive to residents. These improvements help ensure public resources are distributed transparently and serve all New Orleanians more effectively.
Youth MobilityFree rides, more opportunity
Expanding access through fare-free transit for young people.
In partnership with RIDE, we helped secure millions in recurring funding for the Opportunity Pass program, ensuring youth can access school, work, healthcare, and community without transportation costs standing in the way.
Community safetySafer streets, stronger communities
Investing in prevention, intervention, and healing.
We advocated for over a million to be invested in UBUNTU’s peace ambassadors. These programs have responded to hundreds of shooting incidents and averted dozens of retaliations. Through investments in UBUNTU, violence prevention, and community-based safety programs, New Orleans is expanding solutions that address harm at its root.
Housing justiceKeeping families housed
Building stability through housing investments.
In 2022, Right to Counsel was passed, and we pushed for its continued funding. Right to Counsel supports residents facing housing insecurity by providing legal support. Stable housing is the foundation for health, economic opportunity, and thriving communities.
